RAPE

SEXUAL SINS OR NOT?
Sex has always played a big role in creation. Animals act on instinct and thus procreate. Humans are different. Sex has the purpose of procreation but also of bonding and enjoyment.

When talking about sex, things like marriage, fornication, adultery, “consenting adults”, “friends with benefits”, “casual sex”, “swinging”, homosexuality, bi-sexuality”, prostitution, zoophilia, rape, incest, GSA (Genetic Sexual Attraction), “avunculate marriage”, sexbots, etc. come up.

This is not a scientific study on sex and sexual relationships. We’ll look at general trends, behaviour of people in this field, and gather info from various sources to get a general picture of what is going on in the world of sexual relationships.

Sex according to the Bible:

Here I’ll refer to Kerby Anderson summary:

God created men and women in His image (Gen. 1:27) as sexual beings. But because of sin in the world (Rom. 3:23), sex has been misused and abused (Rom. 1:24-25).

A biblical perspective of human sexuality must recognize that sexual intercourse is exclusively reserved for marriage for the following purposes. First, it establishes the one-flesh union (Gen. 2:24-25; Matt. 19:4-6). Second, it provides for sexual intimacy within the marriage bond. The use of the word “know” indicates a profound meaning of sexual intercourse (Gen. 4:1). Third, sexual intercourse is for the mutual pleasure of husband and wife (Prov. 5:18-19). Fourth, sexual intercourse is for procreation (Gen. 1:28).

Sex is very powerful and can be compared to nuclear energy. Within certain specifications of containment it is very useful, without the bounds of containment it is very dangerous en even very destruct full and can cause disasters and lead to death

In the upcoming “pages” we will look closer at the various types of sexual relations for example fornication, adultery, prostitution, rape, homosexuality, pornography, sexbots, necrophilia, etc.

These pages are mainly put together from other sources, written by various people, on these matters. Credit is given and sources are quoted.

SOME OF THE INFO MIGHT BE DISTRUBING TO SOME PEOPLE, BUT THE PURPOSE IS TO PORTRAY WHAT GOING ON IN THE WORLD. JUST AS THE BIBLE ADDRESS THESE THINGS DIRECTLY IN VARIOUS PLACES.

TOP 10 COUNTRIES WITH MAXIMUM RAPE CRIMES
by Ejaz Khan August 27, 2017, 10:31 pm

Rape is a particularly complex crime to analyse, in several parts of the world, it is very rarely reported. Women in some countries are much less likely to have their complaint recorded, due to the extreme social stigma cast on women who have been raped, or subjected to violence or the fear of being disowned by their families.

Rape and other sexual assaults statistics are commonly available in advanced countries, and are becoming more common. Large numbers of rapes go unreported throughout the world. Here, we’ve presented the statistics for 10 renowned countries with maximum rape crimes. You would be amazed to see that the most developed countries like America, Canada, Sweden and United Kingdom are the most immersed in this crime. About 36% of women globally have experienced either physical or sexual intimate violence. In U.S. 83% of girls aged 12 to 16 have experienced some form of sexual harassment in public schools. In England, 1 out of 5 women (aged 16 to 59) experience some form of sexual violence. Following is a detailed list of countries with maximum rape crimes.

TOP 10 COUNTRIES WITH MAXIMUM RAPE CRIMES:

10. DENMARK AND FINLAND
One out of three women in Europe have suffered some form of physical or sexual assault and 5% have been raped.
According to a 2014 study published by the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights, approximately 47% of women surveyed in Finland were said to have suffered physical and/or sexual abuse; And 52 % of women in Denmark were said to have suffered physical and/or sexual abuse. Finland was one of the last countries in the EU to criminalize marital rape, making it illegal in 1994.
More than 1 in 10 of the women interviewed indicated that they experienced some form of sexual violence by an adult before they were 15 years old. One out of 10 had experienced some form of sexual violence since the age of 15, one in 20 had been raped. And over 1 out of 5 had experienced physical and/or sexual violence from either a current or previous partner. Only 13 % of women reported their most serious incident to the police. (Source).

A total of 1 524 cases were reported during the first 3 months of the year, up from 1 285 recorded in the same period last year. Of these reported case, 780 are children (ages from 11 to 16 years) while 276 were children aged between 5 and 10 years. However, there are fears that the number could be higher as some cases go unreported. (Link).

According to UNICEF, Child rape up 42 percent in Zimbabwe. It said the number of cases of rape of minors reported to police surged from 2,192 in 2010 to 3,112 in 2014. Many other cases likely went unreported in a climate of secrecy and denial.

 8. Australia
In Australia the reported rape rate per 100,000 people is relatively high. During the year 2012, an estimated 51,200 Australians aged 18 years and over were a victim of sexual assault. Karen Willis, the NSW Rape Crisis Centre executive officer, says more than 70 % of these sexual assaults are carried out by family members, friends, work or school colleagues. A further 29 % of rapes are perpetrated by someone the woman meets socially or occur on a date. Just 1% of rapes are committed by strangers, she said.

7. Canada
Among all violent crimes reported to police, sexual assault showed a rapid increase in reported rates in Canada. According to huffingtonpost, there are 460,000 sexual assaults in the country every year. Its said that 33 out of every 1,000 sexual assault cases are reported to the police, and 29 are recorded as a crime.

One out of 4 North American women has to face the torture of rape during their lifetime. 11% of women have physical injury resulting this torture. According to the statistics, only 6% of incidents are reported to the police. Over 80% of victims are women, maximum incidents occur in the home and 80% of assailants are friends and family of the victim. The most disturbing fact is that 83% of disabled women will be sexual assaulted during their lifetime. About all sexual assault victims, 17% are girls and 15% are boys under 16.

In 2013, The Roast Busters scandal exposed the truth about rape in New Zealand. A group of young men from West Auckland, calling themselves “Roast Busters”, who allegedly sought to intoxicate underage girls to gang rape them.

Sexual assaults rose 15% in a year, and at schools the number doubled. Only 9 percent of sexual offences are reported (registered by police) in New Zealand. Of all the reported cases, only 13% end in a conviction. 91 % of the rapes either go unreported, or the victims are intimidated by the police to drop complaints. (New Zeeland Herald).

Rape and Sexual violence is a massive problem in India. According to the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB), crimes against women have increased by 7.5% since 2010. Most rapes go unreported in India and the rest of the world. According to Madiha Kark, an estimated 54% of rape crimes are unreported, while Mihir Srivastava estimates 90% of rapes go unreported in India. (Source).

4. England and Wales
Rape in the United Kingdom is not a gender neutral offense: it is an offense that can only be committed by a male against a person. Also the UK has not to date followed the trend in many countries of classifying acts other than penetration with a penis (e.g. penetration with an object, finger) as rape. (Rape statistics United Kingdom).

According to a report entitled “An Overview of Sexual Offending in England and Wales”, released in 2013, by the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), Office for National Statistics (ONS) and Home Office; Approximately 85,000 victims of rape per year in England and Wales – 73,000 females and 12,000 males, equating to about 230 cases every day. The report stated that 1 in every 5 women has experienced some form of sexual violence since the age of 16. See the full report, a summary and/or the data tables here.

According to the BBC reports, the number of rapes reported to and recorded by police is at its highest ever level, increase by 29 percent as overall crime falls in England and Wales.

According to a study by the NSPCC on young people (aged between 13–18), a third of girls and 16 percent of boys have experienced sexual violence and that as many as 250,000 teenage girls are suffering from abuse at any one time. 12 percent of boys and 3 percent of girls reported committing sexual violence against their partners.

 3. USA

About 19.3% of women and 2% of men have been raped at least once in their lives. Additionally, an estimated 43.9% of women and 23.4% of men experienced other forms of sexual violence during their lifetimes. Many victims of sexual abuse were victimized at a young age, about 79% were first raped before age 25, and 40% before age 18. (usatoday).

According to RAIIN, Every 107 seconds, someone in the United States is sexually assaulted. There is an average of 293,000 victims (age 12 or older) of sexual assault each year. 68% of sexual assaults are not reported to the police. 98% of rapists will never spend a day in jail.

Rape And Sexual Assault Among College-Age: An average (65,668+ & 2,866+) college-age women and men experienced a rape sexual assault annually. More than a quarter of college-age women report having experienced a rape or rape attempt since age 14. Out of all, only 16% of the total cases are reported. Females ages 18 to 24 had higher rates of rape and sexual assault than females in other age groups. Rate of rape crime is 1.2 times higher for nonstudents than students. Female students were more likely to experience rape or sexual assault victimization away from home, while nonstudents were more likely to be at home. Among females living in rural areas, the rate of rape and sexual assault victimization was almost 2 times higher for non-students. (Bureau of Justice Statistics).

Rape Crimes in Prisons; According to The Department for Justice, more men are raped in the U.S. than woman in prisons – 216,000 prisoners are raped per year in the U.S. According to the latest National Inmate Survey, 4% of prisoners, 3.2% of people in jail and 9.5% of those in juvenile detention said they had been the victim of sexual abuse. Almost 7% of women said they had been sexually abused by a fellow inmate, while more men said they had been assaulted by staff.

Sweden now has the second highest number of rapes in the world, after South Africa, which at 53.2 per 100,000. Statistics now suggest that 1 out of every 4 Swedish women comes out to be the victim of rape. If you look at the number of rapes, however, the increase is even worse. In 1975, there were only 421 rapes reported to the police – in 2014, it was 6,620. That is an increase of 1,472%. It would seem Sweden is a much more dangerous place for women in the world.

Sweden has the highest rate of rape in Europe. In 2013, according to the Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention (Brå), there were 63 rape cases per 100,000 population reported to the Swedish police.

Thus the actual numbers of rapes is much higher than numbers recorded by the police.

With the highest reported incident of Rape Crimes, South Africa top the list. The majority of sexual violence is against women, but men and children are also subjected to this crime. According to a report, above 4% of men have been forced to have sex with other men. According to South African Police, children are victims of 41% of all reported Rape Crimes. Another source states that there were 24,892 rapes and attempted rapes of children under the age of 18. (Sexual violence in South Africa).

 SHOCKING RAPE STATISTICS SA
About 64,000 women and girls are raped each year in South Africa, and South African women are nearly three times as likely to be raped as women in the United States, according to police statistics. Young girls are often targeted in the belief that sex with a virgin will cure the HIV virus. http://www.southcoasttoday.com/article/19991006/news/310069968

LAWS IN COUNTRIES

When talking about rape there are many concepts that come to mind. Male on female rape, male on male rape, female on male rape, female on female rape, gang rape, etc. There are also date-rape and incestuous rape.

In some countries husbands can’t rape their wives, but in other countries it’s a crime to have forceful sex with your wife/husband.

You also get statutory rape – that is when it is deemed, that although permission to sex is given, the age of the second person is below the age set by the laws of the country at which a person can consent to sex. This varies from country to country

Rape can never be consensual, then it’s not rape. In general it can be said that rape takes place by means of inserting any part of anatomy into any body cavity of the victim, or any object inserted into any body cavity of the victim.

From Lebanon where a rapist can escape punishment if he marries his victim to India where rape within marriage is legal, bad laws are underpinning a global “epidemic of sexual violence”, legal experts said on Monday.

A survey of laws in 73 countries found rapists could avoid punishment if they married their victim in at least nine jurisdictions, including Bahrain, Iraq, Philippines, Tajikistan and Tunisia.

Marital rape is permitted by law in at least 10 of the countries studied by campaign group Equality Now, including Ghana, Lesotho, Oman, Singapore and Sri Lanka.

In four of these, marital rape is even allowed when the “wife” is a child and the marriage illegal, researchers said.

Countries That Respond to Rape Victims By Throwing in Prison

Elizabeth Strassner | May 20, 2013

1. Afghanistan

In 2011, a woman known only as "Gulnaz" was released from a Kabul prison where she had been held for two years for adultery. Gulnaz, who was 19 at the time of her rape, was arrested after she became pregnant with the child of her rapist, her cousin's husband. Gulnaz lived in jail with her daughter, and the two were only released from prison at the request of Afghan president Hamid Karzai — she was given a 12-year sentence.

2. Saudi Arabia

In 2007, a Saudi Arabian judge sentenced a 19-year-old gang rape victim to a six-month prison sentence and 200 lashes. The ostensible purpose for the victim’s sentence was being in public in the company of a non-relative male, which is illegal under Saudi law. The sentences given to the seven men found guilty of the rape ranged from two to nine years.

3. Republic of Ireland

Unjust persecution of rape victims is endemic neither to the Middle East nor to countries under Sharia Law. In Ireland, a woman was arrested and imprisoned last February for refusing to testify against her alleged attackers. The alleged victim, whose attackers were found innocent by the court, is Eastern European, not Irish, and reportedly became so distressed at the order to point out her assailants that her lawyers "feared she might collapse in court" and failed to appear the next day. Police found her after an attempted suicide, and she was arrested after recovery.

4. Somalia

That a failed state is both incapable and unwilling to protect its rape victims from their attackers is hardly surprising, but Somalia has also taken steps to silence anyone willing to report such crimes. This February, Somali police jailed a 27-year-old woman who accused Somali security forces of rape. She was jailed for insulting the government and making what the government called a "false accusation." Also imprisoned was the freelance journalist who interviewed the victim; he was accused of inciting her to give false evidence and of insulting the government.

5. India

Last month, police in the Bulandshahr district arrested a 10-year-old child after her family pressed charges against a local man accusing him of raping the child. The arresting officers, perhaps surprisingly, were female.

GERMAN MAN
A man charged with raping his daughter nearly 500 times and fathering three children by her during a 34-year reign of domestic terror told a German court on Monday the sex had been consensual.

“Never in my life,” he said at the Nuremberg-Fürth regional court Monday, when accused of threatening his daughter with a knife, pulling her hair and forcing her to have sex with him.

The man, named in German media only as Adolf B., 69, admitted committing incest with his daughter, which is a crime under German law, but told the court that she had approached him for sex when she was 16 or 17 years old. “I did not undress her myself,” he said.

He could not understand why she was accusing him of rape, his lawyer said.

But the daughter, now 46, has told authorities his father started raping her when she was about 12, and continued for more than three decades, while keeping her in a state of fear, bullying and beating her and forbidding her to leave the house without him

BILL COSBY USA 5 June 2017
He was “America’s dad” – a hero for millions, who was the first to portray a normal African American family existence. He was a multimillionaire household name, with three palatial homes across the United States and the world at his feet.

But Bill Cosby is now on trial for sexually assault, and his reputation lies in tatters. Almost 60 women have come forward to accuse the 79-year-old of drugging and raping them, over a 50-year span. He has denied all charges.

This trial, in Norristown, on the outskirts of Philadelphia, will likely be the only one the former showman will face – all the other accusers have found that their allegations were in the too distant past, and have fallen out of the statute of limitations

 RAPE IN USA ARMED FORCES

It is the armed forces’ hidden epidemic. And the nation’s shame.

The statistics for military sexual trauma — three words that barely hint at the horror — are both astounding and stomach-turning.

In 2011, there were 3,191 reports of sexual assaults ranging from wrongful touching to rape — but even Defense Secretary Leon Panetta says he believes that because it is such an underreported crime, there were actually as many as 19,000 such attacks.

The underreporting reflects how the majority of victims are too fearful to report the abuse, as many of the perpetrators are their superiors.

'One third of US military women raped'
"Everybody's supposed to have a battle buddy in the army, and females are supposed to have one to go to the latrines with, or to the showers - that's so you don't get raped by one of the men on your own side. But because I was the only female there, I didn't have a battle buddy. My battle buddy was my gun and my knife,'' Army specialist Chantelle Henneberry said.

Back in 2003, a survey of female veterans suggested that 30 percent of the women serving had been raped, while a study conducted in the following year on veterans seeking treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder indicated that 71 percent of the women said they had been sexually assaulted or raped while serving."

AIR FORCE ACADEMY SEXUAL ASSAULT SCANDAL

The Air Force Academy sexual assault scandal in 2003 involved allegations of sexual assault at the United States Air Force Academy, as well as allegations that the alleged incidents had been ignored by the Academy’s leadership.

Twelve percent of the women who graduated from the Air Force Academy in 2003 reported that they were victims of rape or attempted rape while at the Academy. Of 659 women enrolled at the Academy at the time, 70 percent of the 579 women at the academy alleged they had been the victims of sexual harassment, of which 22 percent said they experienced "pressure for sexual favors."

Nineteen percent of those surveyed claimed to have been the victims of sexual assault and more than seven percent said that assault took the form of rape or attempted rape. The alleged attackers had since graduated; there was insufficient evidence for court-martial. Sexual predation was mainly directed toward freshmen and sophomores who were under 21 and were blackmailed after accepting alcohol from upperclass cadets. Several assaults allegedly occurred while women were under the influence of alcohol.

A confidential survey of 4,200 cadets and midshipmen, including all of the women and about 1,000 men, at US military academies conducted by the Defense Department in the spring of 2004 revealed 302 claims of sexual assault by women of which only one third had been officially reported

Emily Hazen, who said she dreamed of going to the Air Force Academy since she was 7 years old, was supposed to graduate in 2015 as a commissioned officer from the elite academy. Both she and Melissa Hildremyr, who also called the academy her "dream school," chose to abandon their military careers after they were sexually assaulted by fellow cadets.

The U.S. Air Force has now identified at least 31 women as victims in a growing sex scandal, a four-star general said Thursday, and there might be more. The Air Force is broadening its investigation to "actively seek any others that may have been affected by this," Gen. Edward Rice, the commander of Air Force Training, said.

"We are taking a comprehensive look not only at the cases that we know, but trying to do the best we can to assess whether or not there are other cases out there," Rice told reporters at the Pentagon.

There is an ongoing problem with sexual assault in the United States armed forces which has received extensive media coverage in the past several years. At least 32% of U.S. military women report having been sexually assaulted, and up to 80% have been sexually harassed.[1] A 2012 Pentagon survey found that approximately 26,000 women and men were sexually assaulted. Of those, only 5,334 cases were reported

According to the USCCR report, a 2010 survey conducted by the Department of Defense found that 54 percent of women and 27 percent of men did not report because they feared retaliation; 47 percent of women and 20 percent of men did not report because they had heard other victims had a negative experience after reporting.

TAILHOOK

As time went on, however, the fallout from Tailhook '91 continued. Ultimately  the careers of fourteen admirals and almost 300 naval aviators were scuttled or damaged by Tailhook. For example Secretary of the Navy  H. Lawrence Garrett III and CNO Admiral Frank Kelso were both at Tailhook '91. Garrett ultimately resigned and Kelso retired early two years after the convention.

ABERDEEN SCANDAL

The Aberdeen Scandal was a military sexual assault scandal in 1996 at Aberdeen Proving Ground, a United States Army base in Maryland.

Ultimately, twelve drill instructors were charged with sex crimes; four were sentenced to prison, while eight others were discharged or received non-judicial punishment. Additionally, "letters of reprimand were issued to Aberdeen's commanding general and three other senior officers."

Drill Sergeant Raped Us, 2 Trainees Testify
ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. — In the first trial to come out of the Aberdeen sex scandal, two Army trainees testified Monday that their drill sergeant raped them in his office.

A 21-year-old private said she was returning to her barracks from the bathroom when Staff Sgt. Delmar Simpson ordered her into his office, pushed her onto a couch, pulled off her shorts and raped her.

At Aberdeen itself, 19 women trainees have filed rape or sexual-assault complaints and nearly 20 noncommissioned officers are now under investigation. Simpson has been charged with rape, forcible sodomy, assault and threats. Beach was charged with adultery, fraternization, lying and making threats. (Lawyers for both men admit theirclients had sex with recruits but say the sex was consensual.) Their company commander, Capt. Derrick Robertson, has been charged with rape, forcible sodomy and obstruction of justice. (He admits having sex with one trainee but says it was consensual.) Administrative action has already been taken against two other sergeants, and 15 non-coms have been suspended from duty pending further investigation

U.S. ARMY SEX SCANDAL GROWS IN GERMANY

WASHINGTON — Amid fresh signs that the Army's sexual-harassment scandal is reaching ever deeper, the Pentagon disclosed Thursday that the commander of an Army training center in Darmstadt, Germany, has been reassigned because of sexual-misconduct allegations.

The change of assignment for 1st Sgt. George Watlington is especially serious for the Army because he topped the chain of command at the center and was on a team investigating charges by 11 women that rocked the facility last week. Two instructors at the center have been charged with rape and sodomy and one with cruelty to a subordinate.

The sexual-harassment scandal, the most serious the military has ever faced, has now touched 10 of the 13 domestic Army bases where the Army trains men alongside women, an informal Times survey found. And it appears to be increasingly turning up allegations at overseas Army bases from Europe to Asia.

"More women are learning about it, and they're coming forward to talk," said Dorothy Macke, a former Air Force captain who has been pressing complaints against two former superiors.

FEMALE U.S. SOLDIERS RAPED BY COMRADES

a Book tells of female U.S. soldiers raped by comrades - Christine Kearney

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Female U.S. soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan have more to fear than roadside bombs or enemy ambushes. They also are at risk of being raped or sexually assaulted by fellow soldiers.

The cover of "The Lonely Soldier: The Private War of Women Serving in Iraq" by Helen Benedict, a journalism professor at Columbia University in New York.

“The Lonely Soldier: The Private War of Women Serving in Iraq,” a book based on 40 in-depth interviews, recounts the stories of female veterans who served in combat zones and tells of rape, sexual assault and harassment by male counterparts.

Some were warned by officers not to go to the latrine by themselves. One began carrying a knife in case she was attacked by comrades. Others said they felt discouraged to report assaults.

“The horror of it is that it is their own side that is doing this to them,” said the book’s author, Helen Benedict, a journalism professor at Columbia University in New York. The book was released in the United States on Wednesday.

One in 10 U.S. soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan are female, and more women have fought and died in the Iraq war than any since World War Two, according to U.S. Department of Defense statistics cited in the book.

Benedict said the book’s title comes from the isolation female U.S. soldiers experience when combining the trauma of their combat duties with sexual harassment by fellow soldiers.

“Because women are under so much more danger now and actually in the battle, it’s a particularly tragic situation because all soldiers are supposed to be able to rely on one another to watch their backs,” Benedict said.

“And how can you feel that way if your fellow soldiers are harassing you all day or trying to rape you or actually even raping you?”

One such soldier, Marti Ribeiro, was a third-generation Air Force sergeant who served in Afghanistan in 2006 as a combat correspondent with the Army’s all-male 10th Mountain Division. Her story includes an account of being attacked and raped by a U.S. soldier in uniform while guarding a post.

After completing the shift and not showering to substantiate the attack, she reported it to authorities, only to be told if she filed a claim she would be charged with dereliction of duty for leaving her weapon unattended. She left the military.

“I had dreams of becoming an officer one day, like my father and grandfather,” she says in the book. “Unfortunately, because I‘m female, those dreams will not come true.”

SURVEYS UNDERSCORE PROBLEM

The number of reports of sexual assault in the U.S. military rose by 8 percent in fiscal 2008 from the previous year and by 25 percent in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to a report released by the Pentagon in March.

There were 2,908 reports overall of sexual assault by members of the military. Such assaults include rape, indecent assault and attempted rape, the report said.

Of the 40 women Benedict interviewed who served between 2003 and 2006, 10 said they had been raped, five said they were sexually assaulted including attempted rape, and 13 reported sexual harassment.

RAPE AND THE BIBLE

The Bible is not silent about rape.
The accounts of sexual assault against women are heartbreaking, even gruesome. But they are not brushed under a rug or hushed up. In fact, of the three accounts describing a woman who was sexually assaulted, each of them precipitated civil war. When Jacob’s daughter, Dinah, was violated by the son of a neighboring ruler, Shechem, her brothers murdered him, his father, and the all of the men of his city out of revenge (Gen 34). After the Unnamed Concubine was gang-raped and left for dead by men in the tribe of Benjamin, the other tribes went to war against them upon hearing of her injustice (Jgs 19-21). And after Tamar was raped by her half-brother, Amnon, her brother Absalom killed him and incited a rebellion against his father, King David (2 Sm 13).

Rape was neither covered up nor ignored. Instead, it was answered and avenged. It was such a cultural convulsion that it was answered with outrage and further violence. The cases of rape in Scripture tell us something about the cases of rape we are hearing today: These women must be heard and they must be protected.

The Old Testament Law gives us an even greater picture of how God takes up the cause of the victim and the vulnerable. There is one passage in particular, Deuteronomy 22:23-29, that safeguarded women who had been violated. Like all of the legal codes, these laws reveal the heart and character of God.

Question: "What does the Bible say about rape?"  https://www.gotquestions.org/Bible-rape.html

Answer:
The Bible does address the issue of rape. As expected, when the Bible mentions the crime of rape, it is depicted as a gross violation of God’s design for the treatment of the human body (Genesis 34). The Bible condemns rape whenever it is mentioned. For example, there is a particular passage in the laws given to the nation of Israel before entering the Promised Land under Joshua’s leadership. This passage (Deuteronomy 22:13–29) spoke directly against forcing a woman into a sexual encounter against her will, or what we know today as rape. This command was meant to protect women and to protect the nation of Israel from committing sinful actions.

Deuteronomy 22:25–27 specifies the punishment the Mosaic Law required for a man who raped a betrothed woman. The man was to be killed by stoning while the woman was considered innocent. Though the Mosaic Law was for the nation of Israel during the time of Moses, the principle is clear that rape is sinful in the eyes of God and, under the Law, led to the most extreme punishment possible—death for the rapist.

There are some difficult passages in the Old Testament in relation to this issue. One is
Deuteronomy 22:28–29, “If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, he shall pay her father fifty shekels of silver. He must marry the young woman, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives.” If the rape victim was not betrothed, then the rapist faced different consequences.

We must see
Deuteronomy 22:28–29 through the lens of ancient culture. In those days, social convention treated women poorly. They couldn’t own property. They couldn't get a job to support themselves. If a woman had no father, husband, or son, she had no legal protection. Her options were slavery or prostitution. If an unmarried woman wasn’t a virgin, it was extremely difficult for her to get married. If she wasn’t marriageable, her father didn’t have much use for her.

God’s punishment on the rapist of a virgin—a monetary fine and lifelong responsibility—was designed to deter rape by holding the rapist responsible for his actions. He ruined her life; it was his responsibility to support her for the rest of her life. This may not sound fair to modern ears, but we don’t live in the same culture they did. In
1 Samuel 13, Prince Amnon raped his half-sister, Tamar. The horror and shame of being violated yet unmarried made Tamar beg him to marry her (her half-brother!), even after he had rejected her. And her full-brother, Absalom, was so disgusted with the situation that he murdered Amnon. That’s how highly virginity in women was prized back then.

Critics of the Bible also point to
Numbers 31 (and similar passages) in which the Israelites were allowed to take female captives from nations they conquered. Critics say this is an example of the Bible’s condoning or even promoting rape. However, the passage says nothing about raping the captive women. It is wrong to assume that the captive women were to be raped. The soldiers were commanded to purify themselves and their captives (verse 19). Rape would have violated this command (see Leviticus 15:16–18). The women who were taken captive are never referred to as sexual objects. Did the captive women likely eventually marry amongst the Israelites? Yes. Is there any indication that rape or sex slavery was forced upon the women? Absolutely not.

In the New Testament, rape is not mentioned directly, but within the Jewish culture of the day, rape would have been considered
sexual immorality. Jesus and the apostles spoke against sexual immorality, even offering it as justifiable grounds for divorce (Matthew 5:32).

Further, the New Testament is clear that Christians are to obey the laws of their governing authorities (
Romans 13). Not only is rape morally wrong; it is also wrong according to the laws of the land. As such, anyone who would commit this crime should expect to pay the consequences, including arrest and imprisonment.

To the victims of rape, we must offer much care and compassion. God’s Word often speaks about helping those in need and in vulnerable situations. Christians should model the love and compassion of Christ by assisting victims of rape in any way possible.

People are responsible for the sins they commit, including rape. However, no one is beyond the grace of God. Even to those who have committed the vilest of sins, God can extend forgiveness if they repent and turn from their evil ways (
1 John 1:9). This does not remove the need for punishment according to the law, but it can offer hope and the way to a new life.

CONCLUSION

Rape is a crime that has been there since the dawn of society. It is so widespread that society has lost it’s ability to see it as serious. It is a crime that is greatly under reported and attended to.

There are the dangers of false accusations, but too many rapes are not taken serious by society.

 WHAT IF YOU WERE/ARE INVOLVED?

Solution – Break with it and seek counselling.

The real solution regarding any sinful sexual relationship is found in the Creator of mankind and in His word, the bible. A Heart changed in the inner-man, by the grace of God through His Holy Spirit sets you free from bondage.

Consider the following:
Sex is like nuclear energy. Within a contained environment (marriage) very useful, outside disastrous, harmful and dangerous.

The solution to this disillusioned lifestyle is the Christian gospel. A Gospel of forgiveness and restoration.
